Much needed snow in Des Montes and TSV January 2012 The Rockies have been dry dry dry to start off 2012. Unprecedented. Colorado has not experience this kind of drought since 2002. Here in New Mexico we hope the moisture will continue to come as we can not stand another dry spring like last year. |

Des Montes Bear Cub in Our Apple Tree
This year 2011 has been a tremendous season for Bears. Could it be Global Warming? Late Frosts have really damaged the fruit season. There's no food for them way high, so now they trumble down to the human plateau's. These beautiful creatures do not come unaccompanied..there are watchful and fiersome mom's hiding close by in the bush. Riding my bike down the Upper Rim Road with my Shepard I froze to a stop seeing a beautiful brown cub sculpture ("What a wonderful sculpture...a perfect likeness", I thought. And then the fur moved and the cub jumped and lumbered a few feet...looked at me, lumbered, looked at me again. I looked across the road to the overgrown acequia hanging over Valdez Valley, and heard a snort. It was Mama. I backed up slowly and my Shepard and I went back the other way. Beautiful, but we need to stay clear of these babies desperate for food. I wonder how cold this winter will be.
Do you have cool bear stories in Taos this year? Blog and send your photos...we will post them.
