SHOPPING IN TAOS!!
Food: Taos is chained by chains. We are forced to purchase foods from major corporations. Our choices are: The Albertson's Chain, The Smith's Chain, The Walmart Chain, and the Super Save Chain.
We have only one home grown food alternative and that is Cid's Natural Food Store. Cid't provides quality but most can not afford the prices.
Many Locals have to shop at several stores to get the best values.
Super Save provides the needs for most of the not so wealthy folk in Taos..with basic foods..great fresh made tortillas, a great butcher dpt for pork roasts and chops and most cost effective chicken roasts and fryers, and beef. You can get good deals on vegetables, though not as large presentations as Smith's.
Albertson's is a chain that has changed from Furr's chain. Prices are manipulated and there are little good offers and deals. The deals are manipulated to cost the consumer in the back end (ie: chicken is on sale but milk is overpriced at the same time). There is less and less versatility with products. One has to complain a lot or else get beat. The employees are real good people but stepped on by the Albertson's Corporation. There is no sense of Company for the People.
Smith's provides a lot of versatility in products. Prices are high. Veg is well presented but overpriced. Smith's has a Seafood section, smaller than Albertson's, but the quality of the fish is good. Meat section is large with deals. Kroger (Smith's) products are inferior and not healthy.
